Fred Erwin, PhD

Dr. Erwin sees patients of all ages and backgrounds.  Whether clients are working on fears and feelings, life transitions, unresolved or complicated grief, career changes, family challenges, or the unique issues of aging my work is to create a safe space where clients can explore those opportunities safely and with enough support to heal and grow.  Dr. Erwin works especially closely with the psychological needs of the elderly, death and dying, grief-counseling, as well as with life-transitions, and with the LGBTQ community in Tucson.

Dr. Erwin completed a BA in Anthropology at the University of Arizona in 1981, and an MDiv in Practical Theology and Counseling from the Pacific School of Religion in 1984.  With a background as a pastoral counselor and spiritual director, Dr. Erwin brings a spiritual perspective to his work, supporting growth at the intersection of spirituality and psychology. Whether spiritual experience has been a source of trauma or strength, it's welcome here.

Dr. Erwin received additional training in Psychology, graduating from The University of Santa Monica with an MA in Psychology with more course work emphasizing counseling, and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Pacific Graduate Institute in 2012.  Today Dr. Erwin provides psychological evaluations and psychotherapy to patients in select Skilled Nursing facilities, as well as with his patients at Aleph Center.  Understanding the impact of our early lives and personal histories in our ongoing relationships and internal issues, Dr. Erwin also incudes a Family Systems perspective in his work with patients.  Patients working with Dr. Erwin will also have opportunities to explore Cognitive-Behavioral approaches as well as more traditional, Insight-Oriented approaches in the consulting room.  Recognizing that the traumas of every day living, as well as the more complex traumas that develop in the wake of exceptionally damaging events, have an impact on nearly every life, Dr. Erwin also brings a trauma-informed perspective to his work.
